Audience Demographics

Following on from our last lesson with Luke, we looked at audience demographics today and how it dictates who looks at a piece of media and why.

A way of categorising advertising to audiences is through the use of demographics, which includes:

  • Age
  • Gender
  • Education
  • Class
  • Household size/homeowner
  • Marital status
  • Occupation and income


Looking at the film Django Unchained that I did an analysis on here, I have thought more about the audience and who they may be. The poster indicates that this film would attract people over the age of 15, as thats what its been age rated as, and probably a more male dominated audience as its portrayed as a violent film which usually attracts more males than females.
